Wrinkles which appear on the forehead are expression wrinkles. They occur between the eyebrows and horizontally below the hairline.
Caused by muscles
The eyebrows can stay in position thanks to two opposing forces:
- the lowering muscles situated around the eyebrows
- the lifting muscles of the forehead
Creases form on the forehead when the lifting muscles are used. The forehead of a young face becomes smooth again as soon as the muscles relax. As time passes, the skin becomes less elastic and the lifting muscles shorten: the forehead creases become permanent and so forehead wrinkles are formed.
